Foundation Class
Welcome to the Foundation class at St Peter's RC Primary School.
Our class teachers are Mrs Tomlinson, Mrs Greaves and Miss Donovan and our teaching assistants are Mrs Batters, Mrs Jones and Mrs Anderson.
As the children enter our Foundation Class they build on their learning, knowledge and understanding from nursery, playgroup, childminders and home. They become ready to acquire knowledge of letters and numbers and to make a start on our phonics and reading programmes. Musical activities, early steps in physical education, creativity in art and craft, use of the computer and an introduction to learning French all serve to enrich the experience.
Our day is based around stimulating play activities, which reinforce the children’s natural curiosity and sense of fun and wonder in learning new things. We believe that well planned play is very important to help young children to learn with enjoyment and enthusiasm at this young age.

Fire engine visit - the fire brigade visited our class. They talked to us about staying safe and they showed us the fire engine. They even let us have a go with the hose!

We love to play games - We really enjoy playing games together and we are very good at sharing and taking turns. One of our favourite games is matching pairs!

Shape treasure hunt - We have been using our outdoor area to look for shapes. We were shape detectives!

Fun in the builders tray - Our builders tray is full of beads and sequins and lots of very small items. We have been using the big tweezers to collect all these exciting things. Sometimes we play a game where we have to collect as many things as we can in one minute!

Fun in the snow - We have had lots of snow in our playground. We put our wellies on and wrapped up warm to go outsdie and make snowmen!
